Punchenello...

Have you heard of the story? A wonderful little story about little wooden people, carved by the Great Woodcarver Eli. These little wooden people spend their entire days running about their village, each carrying a box of stars and a box of dots tucked under their arms. What do they do with these? Well... they stick them. Stick them? Yes. Stick them. On their wooden people neighbors. If they've done something wonderful or elegant, sing sweetly or jump higher than the others, or just look beautiful they are given a star. But if they fumble or have chipped paint or make a mistake they are stuck with a dot. An ugly, gray dot.

Poor Punchenello.

He had so many dots. Ugly, gray dots. Some gave him dots just because all he had was dots. No stars for Punchenello.

I feel for Punchenello today.

Today I feel that I've been given too many dots and like Punchenello, care too much about being stuck and the dots are therefore sticking instead of not sticking.

Like Punchenello, I am looking forward to going to bed tonight. But perhaps, before I so, I'll make sure to spend some time with the Woodcarver. Then I won't care as much whethre I get dots or stars.

Sleep tight.
