Does anyone remember their mom making homemade yogurt? You know, in those cute little glass jars with the little orange lids? I remember eagerly waiting for the yogurt to be ready and chilled then dropping in a spoonful of strawberry jam into my little jar to sweeten it.
Recently I have really been enjoying plain, organic yoghurt I've found at one of my local grocery stores. It tastes just like my moms! So when I came across a recipe that says you can make yogurt WITHOUT a yoghrt maker, I've been just itching to try it! Well today is the day...
I found my recipe in "The Homemade Pantry - 101 Foods You Can Stop Buying & Start Making" by Alana Chernila
Heating the milk to 180 degrees...
Cooling the milk to 110 degrees...

Adding a cup of the heated milk to my yogurt starter then whisking it 'till it becomes nice 'n smooth!
Pouring the milk 'n starter (which was simply 8 oz of plain, organic yogurt - oh wait! I only needed half a cup - not a whole cup! Oops - we'll see how it turns out later on today!
Then adding this mixture back into the pot of heated milk to whisk until it's nice 'n frothy...
Once nice 'n frothy, pouring that mixture into mason jars (gotta make sure to have one small one filled for my next yogurt starter - we'll see if I remember to add only half a cup next time!)
Wrapped the jars in a towel or two and tucked them neatly inside an insulated cooler to keep warm for the next...
...5 hours. Can't wait to see how my yogurt turns out, even with my little mis-math calculation! Oh well, I never did excell in mathematics...
Next two recipes to try: homemade pop tarts (never did like the storebought ones - always tasted like cardboard - even when eating them with my best friend, Donna Savoie!) and homemade mozzarella - ohh - cannot wait for that one!
