Something Easy?
Today I am thinking about how I would just like things to be easy. Easy to accomplish, easy to figure out, easy to follow through, etc., etc.
But I wonder, do I really want that? Do I really want everything to just be easy? If the butterfly never had to struggle to get out of it's cocoon it would be doomed to a life (rather short, no doubt) of crawling about on the ground with it's ugly, bloated body - never reaching it's intended potential. If the newborn baby didn't have to scream after she was born, would her lungs develop quite so well, becoming strong and resistant? Would the crocuses be quite so pretty if they didn't have to push their way through the layer of spring snow?
If all would be easy for me to do, would I really be stretched beyond myself? Would I really be able to reach my own intended, God-given potential? If life was simple for me and all my tasks effortless, would I really need the verse, "I can do all things through Christ who give me strength"? Would I even really need God to lead and direct me in the path of His commands? Would I ever need Him to be my source of strength?
So for a moment I am choosing to rest. I am choosing to rest in His grace and to rely upon His power to accomplish the tasks that make my heart beat more quickly today, but tasks and skills nonetheless that I know my Saviour wants me to develop.
Why? Because I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength and I can trust Him with the tough stuff, because I know that when I have to work hard for something, I appreciate it so much more. Besides, I have two little children who are watching me and likely catching much more than what I am teaching...
Many blessings to you today - it's Worship Wednesday, have you worshipped the King of kings today?

From a book we read yesterday called "The Emperor's Winding Sheet" by Jill Paton Walsh:
"What you cannot avoid in life, you must accept with dignity. Men are not judged by the fate God appoints for them, they are judged by the manner in which they meet that fate. What has happened to you has happened; you will only bruise yourself by fighting against it...Find the courage to submit."
This idea came up also in a book I read last week but I can't find which one. It was worded nearly the same.
You're right that easy isn't necessarily what is best for us and also right to take a rest. Our trust in God will give us the courage to submit to his plans for us.
Love your comment (and you!)- what a great quote, thank you for sharing!
I have thought about this many times ... if only things were easier, but then my faith would not be tested and proved, my confidence in answered prayer would be weak, my hope of heaven would be clouded by this world. O how I long for ease but ease would be my biggest enemy xx love you friend.
